Supporting small businesses in the CBD

The past year has been a challenging time for businesses in the City of Sydney and as the CBD is continuing to reopen, many businesses are trying to remain afloat. While office workers are returning to the CBD during the week, businesses have reported that the city remains quiet on weekends despite various incentives introduced by the City of Sydney and State Government. I believe that everyone should play their part in encouraging people back to the CBD which is why I presented a proposal requesting that the City of Sydney turn off parking meters on weekends along retail and high streets to support small businesses. Unfortunately, the Clover Moore team did not support this proposal stating that the City is doing enough. While the City of Sydney is encouraging people to visit the CBD through cycling and public transport, they should also acknowledge and support car travel as a popular and covid-safe travel method. I welcome the Property Council’s Fab Fridays initiative but I am also supportive of Sensational Saturdays and Sundays. I will continue to work closely with CBD businesses to help welcome back people to our city seven days a week. Read more about my proposal HERE
