I recently visited St James Anglican Church, the oldest church building in the City of Sydney.
Celebrations of the bicentenary of the building will commence in October this year, marking the laying of the foundation stone by Governor Macquarie in 1819.
Robert Marriott, Chair of the Fundraising Appeal Committee, showed me the existing organ which was originally installed in 1827 and rebuilt several times (most recently in 1971) but it has now passed it's 'use by date' and is beyond repair.
The Church are currently raising funds for the new organ which is planned to be installed at the end of 2020. When completed, the new instrument will be the third largest organ in Sydney after those at the Town Hall and Opera House!
