I recently met with representatives from Sydney Water to see the plans for the Johnstons Creek Naturalisation project in Annandale.
Naturalisation involves repairing the concrete with natural looking banks made of rocks and native plants. It can provide a large number of environmental and social benefits including water quality improvement, ecological restoration, flood mitigation, urban cooling and community recreation and amenity.
The project scope is currently extended to The Crescent however, I put forward a Notice of Motion at the October Council meeting to propose that the City of Sydney work with Sydney Water to expand the naturalisation project up to Wigram Road in Glebe and extend the social and environmental benefits for the community. I am pleased to say that Council unanimously endorsed my proposal. This won't impact on the timeline for the current work which will commence in early January 2020.
