I am delighted that Wesley Mission has successfully received development approval for the redevelopment and re-use of the RJ Williams site in Glebe. The RJ Williams centre was last used about 10 years ago for aged care and has since fallen into disrepair.
The redevelopment will create 74 dwellings to be used as affordable housing. The focus of this project is housing for women over 55 who are vulnerable to homelessness, families impacted by violence and key worker housing.
The City of Sydney has also supported this project through a $3 Million contribution from the Affordable and Diverse Housing Fund.
It has been almost 2 years since I brought the Wesley Mission together with philanthropic private enterprise to look at ways we can reduce homelessness and the risk of homelessness. I am pleased that our collaboration has resulted in this terrific outcome. I hope this model of collaborative partnerships will spread throughout our community.
